I took a 5-day vacation from May 26 to May 30.
I spent the first three days of it.
and traveled to Matsuyama, Ehime, on the Orange Ferry for 3 days and 0 nights.
May 27 is my hiikun’s birthday.
This trip was a birthday present to myself.
Though it was a very short period of time, three days and zero nights,
I had the best birthday in Ehime.
On a trip to Ehime,
I wanted to preserve memories in a tangible way,
and bought “something”.
This time to my readers,
I would like to introduce “something” to you
that I bought on a trip to Ehime.
If you have read my last post about my trip to Ehime,
perhaps you have noticed what it is.
This article is intended for the following people.
・Those who are interested in traveling to Ehime
・Those who want to get something unique to Ehime,
other than food or drink as a souvenir when I travel to Ehime.
Ehime has many attractions such as delicious food and drinks, hot springs, historical buildings, and magnificent nature.
Through this article, you will learn that Ehime has more to offer than just these attractions.
I hope you will read to the end.
*For details of the trip to Matsuyama, Ehime, please refer to this article.
Souvenirs from Ehime, other than food
Speaking of souvenirs (food) from Ehime,
it would be this one.
It is the Bocchan Dango dumpling.
These are the souvenirs I purchased for my family on this trip to Ehime.
Now, speaking of non-food Ehime souvenirs,
what comes to mind?
Perhaps,
many of you will think of this one.
Imabari Towel.
Imabari City in Ehime Prefecture is famous for towel production.
Its high water absorbency and pleasant texture have made it popular among many people both in Japan and abroad.
This is an Iyokan towel that I, hiikun, purchased as a souvenir for myself.
Needless to say, Imabari towels are wonderful enough.
It is one of Ehime’s representative souvenirs.
But what I would like to introduce this time is,
not Imabari towel, but this one.
8 WAY CAP
8 WAY CAP by Oriza Co.
The company is based in Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture.
It manufactures and sells a variety of textiles, including hats, scarves, towels, and shirts, mainly made of cotton.
Until I visited Ehime,
let alone this product,
I did not even know that Kobo Oriza Co existed.
After enjoying the hot springs at Dogo Onsen Honkan,
I stopped by this store by chance,
where I found 8 WAY CAP.
This is the Iori main store.
The store specializes in Imabari towels, though.
Clothing made in Ehime Prefecture other than Imabari towels are also available.
It is located just a short walk from the Dogo Onsen Honkan.
I stopped by with the intention of buying Imabari towels.
It caught my eye by accident while I was walking around the store.
Reasons for the decision to purchase
There are multiple reasons for the decision to purchase.
First, let’s look at the appearance.
Stylish and cute, don’t you think?
It looked too good to be true,
I looked at the samples displayed in the store for a while.
It is made of cotton, so it can be used year-round.
Not only in fall and winter,
it can be worn in spring and summer.
Moreover, they come in a wide variety of colors.
I chose black + gray this time,
Various other colors are also available, including blue + navy, maroon + brown, and olive + moss gray.

There are other reasons.
In fact, until about a year ago,
I had a cotton hat similar to this one for about 15 years.
However, I had no choice but to discard it due to its age and damage.
I’ve been looking for a hat similar to that for a long time,
It was hard to find.
But how fortunate.
I stopped by this store by chance.
where I was able to find the hat I was looking for.
The price is a little expensive at ¥4,950-.
However, considering that I will continue to use it for the next 10 years or more, I think it is an inexpensive purchase.
Moreover, it is made in Japan (Ehime) , which makes me rest assured.
Most of our surroundings are made in foreign countries.
Of course, I do not intend to deny their very existence.
It is also true that they have helped us.
However, as a Japanese,
I,hiikun, want to support Japanese products and Japanese companies (especially local companies).
This was another reason for my decision to purchase.
When was the last time I was this excited about buying something?
I can’t wait to get home and wear it.

In the next section, we will show you how it is actually worn.
Let’s try on the 8 WAY CAP.
As shown in the middle photo,
it can be worn in 8 different ways.
It is for both men and women,
Women can also wear it.
Let’s try a few.
First is the basic style.
I usually wear the cap like this.
Because it is reversible,
it is also possible to change the pattern according to one’s mood.
It can be all black or all gray like this.
This may be a little confusing,
we can also make a hollow to look like a turban.
This is a method of wearing that I would recommend to all women.
It can also be used as a neck warmer like this.
I never thought it could be used in this way.
I would love to try it in the winter.

*The next section describes my very personal use of hiikun.
If this is not helpful, feel free to skip it.
Slightly different usage
Personally, I also use it to fix my bedhead.
If I wear it for at least an hour, my hair will be fixed.
I use a hairdressing product when I have short hair.
Hairdressing is surprisingly expensive.
It is a hassle to prepare my hair with a hairdressing product every morning, though,
This hat has made it much easier to fix my bedhead.
As of this writing in late June,
it is already midsummer.
However, there is no problem with waring it early in the morning or later in the evening.
Depending on the weather, I wear it during the day.
A horrible picture has appeared.
Please rest assured.
This is me hiikun.
Occasionally when I can’t sleep at night,
I also use this cap as an eye mask.
The whole room is air-conditioned well.
I don’t feel hot when I wear it.
Craftsmen might be offended if I use 8 WAY CAP in this way.
However, this method is surprisingly helpful when I cannot sleep.
Dear craftsmen, please forgive me.
Summary
I have introduced to you the 8 WAY CAP of Koubou Oriza Co.
which I discovered when I traveled to Ehime.
How was it?
Ehime is rich in specialty products other than food.
Imabari towels are very famous, though,
This is the first time I have heard of the woven products of Kobo Oriza.
I have been using it for only about a month.
The versatility of the 8 WAY CAP is astounding.
In addition to being available year-round,
not just caps,
it can be shaped and used as a neck warmer, stole, or turban.
It is also good that it is reversible, so the color can be changed according to one’s mood.
I am considering purchasing another identical 8 WAY CAP for the winter.
I am thinking of using
one as a hat,
and the other as a neck warmer.
Though I hate winter,
with the 8 WAY CAP, going out in winter will not be so difficult.
This trip to Ehime on the Orange Ferry was great.
I toured the sights of Matsuyama, Ehime, and enjoyed delicious local cuisine.
Moreover, I were able to get a nice item like the 8 WAY CAP.
I am looking forward to the day when I can wear the 8 WAY CAP and visit Ehime again.
Thank you very much for reading to the end.
