“Steak no Asakuma”, which is frequently featured on social networking sites and
famous for serving delicious beef steaks and hamburger steaks,
opened its first restaurant in Osaka City on February 20.
I was excited to hear the news. I couldn’t wait for the restaurant to open.
It was around this time last year that I first learned of Steak no Asakuma.
I saw it featured on a certain foodie channel on YouTube.
I had never heard of this restaurant until then.
I was instantly drawn to the “gakusei (student) hamburger steak”,
the signature dish of Asakuma featured in that video.
“I would love to try this!”

I thought so.
But I learned that none of their restaurants existed in Osaka Prefecture at that time.
I remember being disappointed.
From there, about a year…
With the opening of the Steak no Asakuma restaurant in Osaka City on February 20,
I finally got a chance to get a “gakusei (student) hamburger steak”.
So in this article, I will tell you about our first meal at Steak no Asakuma.

What is “Steak no Asakuma”?

Steak no Asakuma was established in Aichi Prefecture in 1948 (Showa 23).
It is a well-established steak chain with a history of more than 70 years since its establishment.
The main restaurant is located in Nisshin City, Aichi Prefecture.
Their management philosophy is to “contribute to society through food”.
They operate in the Tokai and Kanto regions.
In a relaxed atmosphere,
you can enjoy delicious beef steaks and hamburger steaks at reasonable prices.
In addition to beef steaks and hamburgers,
they have chicken steak and grilled seafood.
Asakuma is also famous for its salad bar, which boasts a wide selection of over 45 items.
Numerous salads, side dishes, soups, desserts, and other items are always available.
I understand very well
that a wide range of customers, young and old, men and women, groups and individuals, like Asakuma.


This time I visited,
“Steak no Asakuma Nishi-Umeda Herbis Plaza” .

Date of visit: March 3, around 4:00 p.m.
In fact, this is not the first time Asakuma has opened a store in Osaka.
There used to be one store in Takatsuki City, Osaka Prefecture.
It was closed more than 20 years ago.
This is the first time Asakuma has opened a restaurant since that time.
This is also the first time in about 20 years that the restaurant has opened in Osaka.
Immediately after the opening, a long line of people formed.
I heard that they had to wait for over an hour.

I, hiikun, hate waiting in line.
So I thought of a time to visit.
I avoided going there during lunch and dinner.
I aimed for weekdays between 3pm and 5pm.
Moreover, thanks in part to the fact that the day of the visit, March 3, was rainy,
it was not so crowded.
I was able to enter the restaurant in just five minutes after the numbered ticket was issued.
I usually hate rain.
Only that day I was thankful for the rain.

Here is the grand menu after 3:00 p.m.
They all look delicious.
I can’t stop drooling just looking at the menu.
Come on.
The long-awaited meal at Steak no Asakuma begins.

Food I ate at Steak no Asakuma

As soon as I took my seat,
the staff explained to me about their menu, how to order, and things to note when using the salad bar.
I was impressed by the very detailed explanations.
Orders can be placed through the tablet terminals located at each seat.
Let’s take a look at the items I ordered.

In addition to the main dish,
I ordered the full set (¥880 (¥968 including tax)), which included a drink bar and salad bar.
As I said at the beginning,
the salad bar offers more than 45 items.
Not only salads,
Prepared dishes such as curry rice, garlic rice, corn soup, mapo tofu (spicy tofu with minced meat), chikuzen-ni (Chicken and Root Vegetables Simmered in Soy Sauce), etc,
Desserts such as cakes, puddings, and jellies,
Breads,
There is a wide variety of products.
Also dough for waffles and taiyaki* is prepared. * a fish-shaped cake filled with sweet red bean paste
We can enjoy cooking it themselves.
Just looking at them makes me happy.

This is salad and corn soup.
When I dine out,
vegetable intake is absolutely essential for me.
Not just hamburger steaks,
this corn soup is another of Asakuma’s specialties.

For thickening,
it can be served hot to the end.
It was chilly on the day of the visit due to rain and wind.
I was able to warm up with a bowl of corn soup.
The taste of the corn can be felt well.
It tastes good.

Along with corn soup,
what is considered as Asakuma’ specialty is this curry and rice.
Considering main dishes and desserts,
I kept the quantity small.
This curry is also excellent.
It is slightly sweet.
Children can also eat it with peace of mind.
The brown rice to the left of the white rice is,
Garlic rice.
In addition to these,
Including dessert and beverages (¥880 (¥968 including tax)) is very affordable.

I had one more dish before the main dish.
Grilled natural scallops with butter and soy sauce (¥638 (tax included)).


Sprinkling lemon enhanced the flavor.
I enjoyed eating the delicious scallops.
Finally,
the main dish is served.

Gakusei (Student) hamburger steak (180g) and Asakuma hamburger steak (120g) (¥2,068 (tax included))
We can enjoy two types of hamburger steaks at the same time.

Steak no Asakuma is not only about steaks.
It is also famous for its delicious hamburger steaks.
The larger and longer one on the left is the Gakusei (student) hamburger steak.
The smaller, circular one in the foreground is the Asakuma hamburger steak.
Better than they look in the picture.
I was surprised at how big they were.

This is the Asakuma hamburger steak.
Crispy on the outside, juicy inside.
It is a taste that a beginner like me, hiikun, can never imitate.

What struck me is ・・・
the Gakusei student hamburger steak.
It goes great with garlic rice.
It calls itself a hamburger steak.
But the texture is like a beef steak.
“I want students who don’t have a lot of money to be able to enjoy the luxury of a steak.”
Seiji Kondo, who is the founder of Steak no Asakuma, invented the Gakusei hamburger steak
with this wish in mind.

More than 50 years have passed since its birth.
The Gakusei student hamburger steak is loved by people of all ages.

On the steak griddle,
Round iron ingots (pellets) at high temperatures are also available.
After cutting,
you can place steaks on pellets and warm them before eating, if desired.
Incidentally,
the pellets were conceived and developed by Asakuma.
For steaks, which are now offered in many family restaurants,
pellets are available.
I had no idea that Asakuma had conceived and developed it.

I continued to eat selflessly.
When I noticed,
three slices of Gakusei student hamburger steak were left.
I carefully and slowly savored each slice with garlic rice.

Finished!
Both the Gakusei hamburger steak and the Asakuma hamburger steak were delicious.
I would have liked to have eaten more.

Finally, I also had dessert.
I had petite chocolate cake, pudding, and orange with hot latte.
The light pink-like color is a strawberry-flavored yogurt-like sweet.
It was light and delicious.
I wanted to try other desserts.
My stomach reached its limit.

For a once-a-month luxury,
I think the price is just right.
I was very satisfied.
