restaurant

Having trouble finding a restaurant in the Taisho Station area?
I hope those who have trouble finding a restaurant in the Taisho Station area will read this article.

The Taisho Station area is lined with numerous restaurants.
Starting with Okinawan cuisine, there are various types of food such as yakitori*1, kushikatsu*2, kappo cuisine*3, yakiniku*4, seafood, Chinese, Korean, Italian, and Indian cuisine. *1 skewered grilled chicken made from bite sized pieces of meat from all different parts of the chicken, *2 deep-fried skewered meat seafoods and vegetables, *3 a multi-course meal that is left entirely up to the chef. *4 Japanese style grilled meat cooked over a charcoal grill or electric/gas griddle on mesh or iron plates.
There are also standing izakayas*, so you really can’t decide where to go. *informal Japanese style pubs that serve alcoholic drinks and snacks.

I, hiikun, a local resident, have carefully selected three of them to introduce to you.

This article is intended for the following people
・Those who look for restaurants and sweets shops in the Taisho Station area after enjoying a professional baseball game or concert at Kyocera Dome Osaka.

Around Taisho Station

First, let’s take a look at the Taisho Station area.

Taisho Station is the only station in Taisho Ward, located in Sangenya, Taisho-ku, Osaka City.
The Osaka Metro Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi Line, which originates from this station, and JR Osaka Loop Line serve the area.

Not only residents of Taisho Ward, but also some residents of the surrounding Nishi, Naniwa, and Minato wards use this station.

Therefore, during the morning and evening rush hours, the area around the station is crowded with many people.

When professional baseball games, concerts, and other events are held at Kyocera Dome Osaka,
the area around the station will be heavily congested.
In the worst cases, there are even restrictions on entry at JR Taisho Station.

In addition, since “HOTEL SOBIAL Osaka Dome-mae (see photo directly above)” opened in front of the station,
many foreign tourists have also been seen in the area.
Hotel Sovial Osaka Dome-mae

Many people with Okinawan roots live in Taisho Ward.

According to the Osaka City’s official website, Population Estimates (as of the first day of each month) and Population Change, Taisho Ward has the smallest population among the 24 wards of Osaka City, at 59,336 (as of February 1, 2024).
A few years ago, when the population was about 80,000, I often heard that a quarter of them were from Okinawa.
I do not know what that ratio is now that the population is below 60,000.

Nevertheless, there is still an Okinawan atmosphere in our district today,
Numerous Okinawa-related restaurants and product stores are located here.

There are probably at least 10 Okinawan restaurants in the Taisho Station area alone.
As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, in addition to Okinawan cuisine, we also offer yakitori, kushikatsu, sushi, yakiniku, kappo cuisine, Chinese cuisine, Korean cuisine, and much more.

The area around the station looks like this.

As you can see, there are many stores.
It’s hard to know where to go.

In the next section, I, hiikun, a local, recommend three stores.
The first is a hamburger restaurant, the second is an Okinawan restaurant, and the third is a yakiniku restaurant.

Let’s take a look.

Burger Tavern, Hamburger Mama

First, I would like to introduce you to this,
Burger Tavern Hamburger Mama.

As the name suggests, this is a bar where you can enjoy a drink with a hamburger.

Here is the menu for Hamburger Mama.
As you can see, there is a wide selection of homemade burgers.
They all look so delicious that it’s hard to decide which one to try.

If you open the menu above, this is what you will see inside.
In addition to burgers, the restaurant offers a wide variety of a la carte dishes.
I also like the fact that English is written alongside.
It is wonderful that it is taken into consideration
so that foreign travelers will have no difficulty in ordering.

It is very close to Taisho Station and you can reach this bar in 2 minutes on foot.

I have brought their humburgers home several times in the past, but this is the first time I have eaten or drank in the restaurant.
Here is what I, hiikun, ordered.

Nadeshiko-mama (set ¥1,100)

As noted in the above photo,
“A purely Japanese style burger that seems to represent the beauty of the Japanese woman
with shiso leaves, green onions, pickled plums, white sesame seeds, nori seaweed, and wasabi sauce to finish.”
Sounds interesting to us.

I chose this one without hesitation because it looked beautiful.

Here is the finished product.
Some restaurants may disappoint us with a big difference between the picture on the menu and the actual product.
However, this is not the case with Hamburger Mama’s products.
I was relieved to see that the product came out exactly as pictured.
Looks delicious.

The Burger with fries and pickles.
We also ordered tomatoes.
They also provided us with the wrapping paper so that I could eat the meal without spilling.

The meat is crispy on the surface and juicy inside.
Wasabi sauce and pickled plums add a nice touch of flavor.
Even I, hiikun, who does not like pickled plums, was able to enjoy it.

This is grapefruit beer (¥550).
It has a clean, refreshing taste with a hint of grapefruit acidity.
I would like to encourage those who don’t like beer to try it.

My impression of the restaurant is that the lighting is subdued and the atmosphere is relaxed.
There are about 10 seats at an L-shaped counter table.

I visited on February 20 at around 10:30 pm.
There were two customers who appeared to be regulars.
The restaurant may be full at certain times of the day.
I occasionally pass by the store and get the impression that it is crowded between 7pm and 9pm.

If you want to avoid the crowds, go early,
or I recommend visiting after 10pm.

It might be a good idea to go there during lunch time.

In addition to handmade hamburgers, the restaurant also offers a wide variety of a la carte dishes!
Why not have a wonderful time at Hamburger Mama
, filled with a relaxed atmosphere?

Next, let me introduce you to an Okinawan restaurant.

Okinawa Izakaya/Sushi Ryuki

Okinawa Izakaya, Sushi Restaurant Ryuki.

First of all, did you notice anything in the above picture?

Yes, this okinawa izakaya bar is located two doors to the left of the first one, Hamburger Mama.
The restaurants and bars in this area are a bit far from the entrance and exit area of Taisho Station, so people often overlook them.
In the areas away from the station entrances and exits, you will find the nice bars and restaurants.

As described as an Okinawan original izakaya and sushi restaurant, it mainly serves Okinawan cuisine, sushi, and sashimi*. *thinly sliced, raw seafoods and meat eaten with sauce such as soy sauce.

The meals I had were as follows

When it comes to Okinawa, it is Orion Beer.

Here is what was served as the “appetizer”.
On the right is mozuku sea weed vinegar.
On the left is a deep-fried fish paste called “Tarashiage”, a local dish of Ishigaki Island.
This “Tarashiage” is excellent.
I liked it instantly.
It is well seasoned, so you don’t need to use seasonings.
The seasonings would spoil the flavor, so I enjoyed it as is.

It was so good I decided to ask the owner what this was.
Just as I was thinking this, another customer nearby asked me about it, and that’s how I found out about it.

This is mozuku seaweed tempura.
The batter is less, allowing you to enjoy the true flavor of mozuku seaweed.
It is crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside.
As a mozuku lover, I, hiikun, always order it every time I go to an Okinawan restaurant.

This is vegetable chanpuru.
Chanpuru is an Okinawan home-style dish consisting mainly of island tofu stir-fried with vegetables and oil.
This very healthy dish is made with bitter gourd, bean sprouts, carrots, cabbage and tofu.
Meat is not included.
But with simple seasoning using soy sauce, salt and pepper, etc,
I had the impression that the original flavors of the vegetables were well utilized.
I was very satisfied even without meat.

This is “Fried Gurukun”.
Gurukun is a fish belonging to the family of the sea bass family, Acanthuridae, and is considered a local fish in Okinawa.
It is a standard ingredient in Okinawa’s local cuisine.
Like mozuku tempura, this is one dish I always order every time I visit an Okinawan restaurant.

The most notable feature of fried gurukun is that it is “all edible”.
The meat, of course, is edible, but the bones, tail, and head are all edible.

As you can see, we were able to eat everything.
It was delicious.

It is a wonderful bar filled with Okinawan atmosphere.
The interior of the restaurant is very bright, but for some reason it has a mysterious atmosphere that is calming and relaxing.
We enjoyed the delicious food.
The total amount of food and drinks we had was about 2,500 yen.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
I do not remember the exact amount of each item.
The price I saw online was slightly different from the price I saw on the menu.
For the exact amount of each item, please check directly with the restaurant’s menu.

As described as an Okinawan original izakaya and sushi restaurant, it also offers dishes using seafood from Okinawa and Ishigaki.
Unfortunately, on the day of our visit, however, they didn’t offer us sushi and sashimi
using fresh fish from Ishigaki.

The owner says that fresh fish from Ishigaki is hard to find in winter.
Depending on the season, sushi and sashimi using fish from Ishigaki may not always be available.
If you are really concerned, ask the restaurant in advance if they can provide it.

Please refer to this page for a list of items I wanted to try.

Despite being busy, the owner came to see me off.
Despite the disappointments, it is a rather highly rated bar for me.

I encourage you to visit the bar.

Now let’s move on to the third and final place.

Taisho Yakiniku SUN Nasubi!

Here is the last one.

Taisho Yakiniku SUN Nasubi!

I was suppoed to take up another restaurant.
However, when I went to the restaurant, it was full.
I visited again a little later, but the situation remained the same.

When I had no choice but to look for another restaurant, this restaurant suddenly caught my eye.

I knew of the existence of this restaurant and have been curious about it for some time.
Fortunately, there were no customers, so I decided to have dinner here.

I decided to feature this restaurant because I found their meals delicious.
I, hiikun, had the following.

Let’s take a look.

Thinly sliced juicy salted tongue (869 yen)/negi green onion & lemon.

One of the restaurant’s recommendations is its specialty, thick-sliced top salt tongue (1,089 yen).
I really wanted to have this one, but for various reasons, I decided to have the thinly sliced medium-salted tongue.
However, even though it is a standard tongue, it is satisfying in both taste and quantity for me.

Other meats ordered were as follows

Top Harami (skirt steak) (869 yen)
Top loin (759 yen)
Misuzi (top blade muscle) (759 yen)
All are seasoned with soy-sauce-based sauce.

Halami is my favorite part of the dish.
It is tender and delicious, and I always order it every time I go to a yakiniku restaurant.
The upper loin was also good.

I ate Misuzu for the first time.
I had never had it at any other yakiniku restaurant.
I ordered it because I was attracted by the picture on the menu.
The taste is impressive, with little fat and light taste.
It was even more tender than the harami, and I was crazy about it.

I had four meat dishes this time and the misuji was the best.

The restaurant was very clean.
The wooden walls provide a calm atmosphere.
There are four tables that can seat up to six people.
There are also three counter seats available.
Therefore, you can easily visit the restaurant by yourself like me and enjoy the grilled meat there.
I had a wonderful time.

In fact, I visited the restaurant again later in the day.
What is the reason?

Take a look.

Yakiniku bento (1,639 yen).
Tea is included.

I was curious about a picture of a yakiniku bento on a sign placed near the entrance of the restaurant.
I decided to buy it and try it.
Let’s open it up and take a look inside.

Looks delicious.
The parts used are the two recommended items of the day.
This time I ordered the loin and the medium-fat ribs.
The owner himself cooked the food.

I usually do not spend more than 1,500 yen for dinner.
However, I bought it as a reward for my hard work at work.
The aroma of the meat and sauce is appetizing.
It is a high-end lunch box that costs about 1,600 yen, so I am not sure when I will be able to eat it again.
Therefore, I took the time to savor it.
I am very satisfied.

I was very tired from work that day, but eating this yakiniku bento got rid of my fatigue.
I was able to gain energy for tomorrow.
The power of food is enormous.

When you are tired, in pain, or sad, don’t think too much.
First, eat what you like.

Eat what you like, build up your strength, and then tackle the problem.

We had not originally planned to visit it, but we found a wonderful restaurant.
I would like to go back.

For more information about the menu and the restaurant, please refer to the official Instagram account.

summary

The following three stores were introduced in this issue.

Burger Tavern Hamburger Mama
Okinawa Izakaya, Sushi Restaurant Ryuki
Taisho Yakiniku SUN Nasubi!

All three restaurants have a lot of charm.

Hamburger Mama is a bar where you can enjoy handmade hamburgers and drinks.
In addition to burgers, the bar offers a wide variety of a la carte dishes made from a variety of ingredients.
I enjoyed the meal in a relaxed atmosphere.

Okinawan Izakaya & Sushi Ryuki makes you feel as if you are in Okinawa.
The bright interior is impressive.
Depending on the season, dishes using fresh fish caught off Ishigaki Island may not be served.
Despite the shortcomings, all the food I had was delicious.

Taisho Yakiniku SUN Nasubi! is a place where you can get meat with high quality at a relatively affordable price.
The clean and wooden walls create a relaxed atmosphere.
Initially, I was not going to post this restaurant on my blog.

I liked it so much that I decided to post it on my blog in a hurry.

There are still many attractive restaurants and bars in the Taisho Station area.
