The 20th of every month is my payday.
How long I have waited for this day…
Unfortunately,
I need to spend most of the salary on payments and savings.
Therefore, there is little money left over to enjoy my pastime.
I really want to travel.
But there is little or no money left over and it is difficult to take long vacations.
For reasons such as the corona-virus pandemic,
I have not taken any trips involving overnight stays in the last 5 years.
Day trips only.
Even a day trip can be enjoyable enough, depending on ingenuity.
When it comes to travel, hot springs come to mind.
Arima Onsen hot spring resort is one of the most popular one-day hot spring trips in the Kansai region.
So this time,
I will show all of you what I did
when I took a day trip to Arima Onsen
with a discounted train ticket.
This article is intended for the following people.
・Those who are thinking about where to go for a one-day trip to a hot spring.
・Those who are looking for a way to take a day trip to a hot spring in a more economical way.
By reading this article,
with the discount train ticket,
you will know how you can make your day trip enjoyable.
Please read to the end.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Arima Onsen
Arima Onsen is a hot spring resort located in Arima-cho, Kita Ward, Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture.
It is said to be one of the “Three Great Springs of Japan” and was a favorite of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the founder of the Toyotomi clan.
Incidentally, the other two of the three best springs in Japan are Kusatsu Onsen in Gunma Prefecture and Gero Onsen in Gifu Prefecture.
It is located relatively close to the urban centers of Kobe, Osaka, and Kyoto.
It is easily accessible by highway bus or train from Osaka City in 1 to 1.5 hours.
Therefore, regardless of weekdays, weekends, or holidays, the area is always crowded with tourists.
This is probably the most representative ryokan* of Arima Onsen. *Ryokan means a type of traditional Japanese accommodation.
It is a long-established ryokan, Hyoue Kouyoukaku, which has been in business for 700 years.
In the Kansai region, this hotel is well known through TV commercials.

有馬温泉 兵衛向陽閣
Many long-established ryokan inns, including Hyoue Kouyoukaku, stand side by side.
In addition to lodging, there are also many facilities where you can enjoy hot spring baths on a day trip to Arima Onsen.
The official website of Arima Onsen introduces facilities where you can enjoy hot springs on a day trip.
This time I visited one of them, Taiko-no-yu.
In the next section,
I will give you an overview of the one-day pass I used on that occasion.
Arima Onsen Taikounoyu Coupon 2025 Edition
This is the discount train ticket I used this time.
This is a one-day pass sold by Hankyu Corporation, Arima Onsen and Taiko-no-yu Coupon (2024 version*).
*I used the 2024 edition because I went there on March 20.
The price is ¥3,000.
Its contents are as follows.
・Taiko-no-yu entrance fee (¥2,750/weekday, ¥2,970/weekend, national holiday)
・Various discount coupons for use in Taiko-no-yu
・One-day unlimited ride ticket to “Arima Onsen Station” of Kobe Electric Railway
・Free travel on the designated section for one day that you choose during the validity period (from April 1 to March 31 of the following year).
This time I, hiikun, took the Hankyu Line from Umeda to Arima Onsen.
These are the sections
that I used for the unlimited one-day ride.
Hankyu Railway | All lines (except Kobe Kosoku Line) |
Kobe City Subway | Sannomiya ~ Tanigami |
Kobe Electric Railway | Tanigami – Arima Onsen |
*Valid for one person only, cannot be shared by more than one person.
*A separate bath tax of ¥75 is required.
This product contains these things.
This is the one-day pass.
Admission ticket and various discount coupons.
This time, I used the 5% discount coupon that can be used at the souvenir store in the museum and
the 50% discount coupon for a 30-minute bedrock bath course.
It is also written in English.
It will be rather easy and secure for foreign travelers.
It also has a brochure.
It has directions on how to get there,
If you follow it, you will reach Arima Onsen without getting lost.
I, hiikun, used the Hankyu version this time,
The Hanshin Electric Railway version is also available.
The content is the same as the Hankyu version, but the price is different.
While the Hankyu version is ¥3,000,
the Hanshin edition is slightly less expensive at ¥2,800.
In fact, last November,
I gave my sister two coupons for the Hanshin edition as a birthday present for her birthday.
Later I went to Taiko-no-yu with my mother.
They were very happy to have enjoyed the day trip to the fullest.
I would also recommend you to give this coupon as a gift to someone special.
You can purchase the coupon at the information counters located at major Hankyu stations.
This is the Ananai information counter located at Hankyu Osaka-Umeda Station.
As for the Hanshin version,
you can purchase it at the stationmaster’s office at major stations.
This is the station manager’s office at Hanshin Osaka-Umeda Station.
I have an important announcement for you.
Until the 2024 edition, the Hankyu version was ¥3,000 and the Hanshin version was ¥2,800.
However, the price has increased slightly since the 2025 edition.
The Hankyu version is ¥3,150 and the Hanshin version is ¥2,950.
Altough the cost of coupons has gone up,
the content doesn’t change.
For more information about terms and conditions, sales locations, refund conditions, etc,
please refer to the official website of each railway company.
・Hankyu Corporation Edition
・Hanshin Electric Railway version
The Hankyu version is ¥3,150 and the Hanshin version is ¥2,950.
The price has increased since the 2025 edition,
I hiikun think it is still a good deal.
One-way fare from Hankyu Umeda Station to Kobe Electric Railway Arima Onsen Station is ¥1050.
The round trip is 2,100 yen.
Considering the round-trip train fare
and the admission and discount coupons I mentioned at the begging of this article,
I would say it is indeed a very economical one-day pass.
Moreover, you can freely get on and off the train within the designated section.
If there are any other place you would like to visit besides Taiko-no-yu and Arima Onsen,
you can also easily stop and visit it on the way.
I will give you a report on an actual visit to Taiko-no-Yu using such the special one-day pass.
Let’s actually visit Taiko-no-yu!
Now let’s actually visit Arima Onsen and Taiko-no-Yu.
As I said in the previous paragraph,
I took the Hankyu Line this time.
I begin my journey at Hankyu Osaka Umeda Station.
Hankyu has three main lines.
・Kyoto Line
・Takarazuka Line
・Kobe Line
Plese take the Kobe Line train.
I first take the 12:10 limited express train to Kobe-Sannomiya Station.
It had already arrived.
Let’s get in as soon as possible.
Now, let’s get going.
The time required to Kobe Sannomiya is 27 minutes.
This is the photo of Mt. Rokko I took from inside the Hankyu Kobe Line train.
On the other side of that mountain is Arima Onsen hot spring resort.
The express train ride took 27 minutes.
I arrived at Kobe Sannomiya Station.
Here I can change to another line.
The next is,
Kobe City Subway Seishin-Yamate Line.
Ride this to the final destination, Tanigami Station.
It took 12 minutes from Sannomiya to the last stop, Tanigami Station.
Guidance on where to go to Arima Onsen is also provided.
This is the second transfer at this station.
The next ride is on the Kobe Electric Railway Arima Line.
When I got off the subway,
the train arrived just in time.
I really appreciate that I didn’t have to wait to get on.
Kobe Municipal Subway and Kobe Electric Railway.
Although the companies are different,
considering the transportation of passengers to Arima Onsen,
they may arrange the schedule so that passengers can change trains without having to wait.
By the way, what do you imagine when you hear the word Kobe?
Many people probably imagine “the sea” or “port towns.
Since the opening of the port more than 150 years ago,
Kobe has developed as an international trading city.
These are photos I took last year when I visited Kobe to write another article.
For more information, please refer to this article.
When you think of Kobe, you probably imagine these scenes in the photos above.
But when arrive at Tanigami Station,
the landscape changes drastically.
The scenery looks like this as we ride the Kobe Electric Railway in the direction of Arima Onsen.
The landscape differs greatly between the south and north sides of Mt Rokko.
Of course, this area is also in Kobe City.
In contrast to the urban port town located south of Mt.Rokko,
you can see a quiet and beautiful countryside.
From Sannomiya, the center of Kobe facing Osaka Bay,
in just 30 minutes, you can come visit such a nice place filled with nature.
I think one of the charms of Kobe is that you can go back and forth between the sea and the mountains in a short time.
Arrived at Arimaguchi station.
This is the third transfer here.
A train bound for Arima Onsen was stopped on the platform across the street.
Again, the transfer went smoothly with no waiting.
Take a 5-minute train ride from Arimaguchi Station.
Arrived at Arima Onsen station.
The day of my visit also happened to be a holiday.
The area around the station was crowded with many tourists.
The shuttle bus to Taiko-no-yu arrives in front of the station.
A timetable is also available.
A few minutes on the bus,
we arrived at Taiko-no-yu.
Before entering the facility,
also check the bus schedule for the return trip.
I completed the admission procedures.
After changing into indoor clothes, it was time to take a bath!
This is the end of the photo shoot.
This is a public bathhouse.
Even in places where photography is allowed, I hesitate to take pictures.
Please visit the official Taiko-no-yu website for more information on the inside of the building.
A brief summary of what I did in the museum is as follows,
・Relax in the various types of open-air baths.
・Sweat it out in a bedrock bath.
・After taking a bath, cool down with soft ice cream.
・Buy souvenirs.
I wanted to experience massage and doctor fish therapy.
I gave up due to my schedule.
I would love to use them if I have an opportunity.
Because it was a holiday,
the facility was very crowded.
I would like to visit on a weekday next time.
There are also many stores and restaurants along this street.
A little further down the street…
Proceed to the narrow alley indicated by the red arrow,
There are many more attractive stores to choose from.
The alley was so crowded that I hesitated to take pictures.
However, it is still worth a visit.
It’s time to get hungry.
There is also a restaurant at Taiko-no-yu.
But because I wanted to eat a certain thing in a certain place,
I refrained from eating at Taikoo no Yu.
I will tell you more details later.
It is time to return to Osaka.
I didn’t go to Umeda, the last stop.
I got off at Juso station on the way.
To have dinner from now on,
I headed to a place.
Dinner and dessert at Juso
I got off at Juso.
I go to one place now.
There is a shopping street right in front of the west exit of Juso Station.
Many restaurants line the streets.
This is the east exit of Juso Station.
As at the west exit, there are many restaurants here as well.
Go straight through the shopping street at the west exit of Juso Station.
You will be on a large street.
Proceed in the direction indicated by the red arrow.
Many restaurants can be found here as well.
A little further on, you will see it on your right,
This is the “Negiyaki Yamamoto Juso Honten”.
I was aware of the existence of this restaurant,
I had never visited it before at all.
It is so famous that it is no exaggeration to say that it represents this area.
I had been wanting to go there for a long time.
This time I finally had the opportunity to visit.
This is why I refrained from eating at Taiko-no-yu.
It is a specialty of Negi-yaki.
This okonomiyaki savory pancake contains a large amount of scallions and suji beaf tendon.
However, I, hiikun, do not like suji beaf tendon.
That’s why I ordered this time,
Seafood deluxe negi leeks.
In addition to large quantities of green onions,
it contains shrimps, squids, and scallops.
I like the light soy sauce.
It enhances the flavor of the “negiyaki”.
The dough is fluffy.
The soup stock in the dough was very tasty.
I, hiikun, also make okonomiyaki at home.
The top one is by me, hiikun,
Below is the negiyaki by a shop staff in Yamamoto.
Compared to that which I, hiikun, an amateur, make.
it goes without saying that Yamamoto’s Negiyaki is by far the most delicious.
It looks beautiful.
I feel it is impolite to make comparisons.
When I finished my meal and left the restaurant…
More than a dozen customers were waiting in line.
When I, hiikun, arrived, there were three people in line in front of me.
However, I was able to secure a seat earlier than expected.
I made a good decision to come early.
Dessert after dinner is a must.
On returning to Juso Station,
I stopped by this store.
Kiyasu Sohonpo is a representative Japanese confectionery store in Juso.
It is located just a short walk from the west exit of Juso Station.
The store is famous for its Mitarashi dango*. *Japanese sweet, small round dumplings covered in a sweet soy sauce”
They grill the dumplings after taking an order.
Moreover, you can choose the degree of grilling.
The savory dumplings go well with the sweet and sour sauce.
When I, hiikun, visited this shop,
several customers were lined up for Mitarashi dango.
It shows how popular this product is.
I finished eating Mitarashi dango,
I finally returned to Umeda.
It was a fun day trip.
On this day trip,
the expenses other than the one-day ticket including the Taiko-no-yu coupon are as follows.
Summary
This time,
I have shown you the day trip to Arima Onsen with the Taiko-no-yu coupon.
I hope you enjoyed this article.
In addition to the round-trip train fare,
the admission fee, which costs nearly ¥3,000, and various discount coupons are also included,
The Hankyu version is ¥3,150 and the Hanshin version is ¥2,950 (2025 edition).
Although the price increased by ¥150 compared to the previous year’s edition,
it is worth traveling with this coupon.
Many people will plan their trip well in advance.
However, there will be times when you suddenly feel like taking a day trip.
This is also recommended in such cases.
If you buy the coupon at the station,
all that remains is to enjoy the trip and the hot springs.
Moreover, it is possible to make a stopover within the designated section.
It will also be useful when you visit some places of interest along the Hankyu, Hanshin, Kobe Municipal Subway, and Kobe Electric Railway lines.
It is the perfect coupon for a quick trip.
I encourage all readers to use this coupon.
Thank you very much
for reading to the end.
See you in the next article.
